Plush Gallery presents a group exhibition of students from Texas A&M
Commerce, entitled "Kids from Commerce". Featuring undergraduate
members of the campus Art Club, the exhibition highlights painting,
mixed media work, sculpture and performance.
Long known as a breeding ground for emerging contemporary artists, the
university has turned out legendary figures such as Gary Panter,
Trenton Doyle Hancock, Robyn O'Neill, Lawrence Lee, Greg Metz, John
Pomara and Martin Delabano, among many others. The current crop of
young artists is a
testimony to the free-wheeling experimental nature of the school.
At 32, Val Curry, the eldest member of the group, is also the one with
the most exhibition experience. He has shown in art fairs and group
exhibitions with Plush beginning at age 24, and was featured in a solo
exhibition at Richland College in 2007. He is known primarily for his
expressionist sculpture, as well as performance work, both solo and as
a member of the experimental sound collective Binary Sound Machine.
In collaboration with U.T. Dallas' CentralTrak residency program,
Plush will feature a project space installation by current resident

London, Ms. Borgna is a veteran of many international artist
residencies. Her environmental installations investigate the nature of
landscape, and how modern life has altered that perception. She is a
recipient of both the Joan Mitchell, and Jackson Pollock and Lee
Krasner award grants.
Dallas native Thorrific will be the featured performer for the
evening, mixing a blend of live and electronic sound with processed
abstract video projections. Typically he plays digiridoo, or other
obscure indigenous instruments, while sampling and altering sounds
digitally, and mixing live video feeds simultaneously.
